Bhadrak: A theatre actor was seriously injured after being beaten up allegedly by police in Odisha’s Bhadrak district late Sunday night.
According to sources, the incident took place when the actor, Gopinath Nayak of Telanati in the district, was returning home from Bhadrak town in his car at around midnight. Some police personnel, who were on patrolling duty in Agarpada, stopped his car and told him to produce document of the car.
“After I provided all valid documents of my car, four policemen, who were in inebriated condition, demanded money from me. As I refused to give the money, they dragged me out of the car. They scolded me abusive language and beat me up with their batons,” Nayak said.
The actor sustained injuries on face, hands, back and other parts of the body. He is undergoing treatment in Community Health Centre (CHC) at Agarapada.
After the matter was brought to the notice of Bhadrak SP Varun Guntupalli, he ordered a probe into the incident and transferred four personnel of Agarapada police station to the district police headquarters.
