Kendrapara: Irate people of Balana village under Mahakalapada police limits in Odisha’s Kendrapara district staged a road blockade on Sunday morning following the death of a youth, who allegedly committed suicide after escaping from the police station on Saturday night.

The deceased has been identified as Abinash Paitala alias Musa.

According to reports, Mahakalapada Police had arrested Musa on Saturday night for stealing a mobile phone of a villager. After interrogation, police had put him in the lock-up.

At about 10 pm, police took Musa to attend the nature’s call. However, he managed to escape. Despite a frantic search, police could not find him.

However, his body was found hanging from the staircase railing of one Haladhar Mallick’s house in the village early on Sunday.

Following the incident, irate villagers staged a road blockade at Balana Chhak on Jambu-Marshaghai Road. The family members alleged that he took the extreme step due to police excesses.
