Bhubaneswar/Puri: Two theft suspects, who dramatically escaped from police custody in Odisha’s Puri district by breaking through a toilet skylight, were apprehended in Bhubaneswar’s Mancheswar area on Friday after a 60-hour manhunt.
The duo, Krishna Sahoo and Suryakant Mohanty, fled Gop police station at around 7 pm on Tuesday evening by exploiting a corroded skylight in the washroom to access the roof.
Preliminary probes revealed the suspects had planned the escape after noticing the weakened skylight, a structural flaw that facilitated the breach. One of them reportedly wrapped a towel around his fist and punched the skylight, managing to shatter it. They then climbed out through the opening and fled from the police station premises.
The CCTV footage and a multi-district search aided their recapture, sources said.
Meanwhile, Puri SP (in-charge) Pinak Misra has ordered an investigation into possible negligence.
