Lucknow: Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav took a jibe at the BJP over the excavation work at Uttar Pradesh’s Sambhal.
Claiming that there is a ‘shivling’ under Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath’s official residence here, Akhilesh remarked that it should also be excavated.
“Since excavation work is underway, I remembered something which I should tell you all in the media… there is a shivling at the chief minister’s residence too… I had heard it before but didn’t take it seriously. But now we have faith that the shivling is there, so it should also be excavated,” said the former UP CM who is currently a Lok Sabha MP.
Amid laughter, Akhilesh added, “The media should go first we will be right behind you… won’t let you turn back,” he said with a smile.
An Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) team recently inspected the newly-found ancient Shiva temple and wells near Shahi Jama Masjid in Sambhal.
Excavation work has been underway for nine days.
Akhilesh has been critical of the BJP over the excavation exercise.
“They will keep searching like this and one day, by digging and digging, they will end up digging their own government,” Akhilesh had said.
