New Delhi: A Delhi Police inspector who had claimed that he was assaulted while on duty during the July 20 ‘Sansad chalo’ protest march near Parliament House, said that his life was at risk during the violence that broke out that day.
Inspector Nand Kishore told CNN-News18 that the situation escalated once the protesters broke through the final police barricade and tried to move towards Parliament.
The inspector said he was attacked by a group of stone-pelters and others allegedly involved in theft amid the mayhem. Had he not managed to leave the spot, the mob “would have lynched” him, he claimed, adding that he feared for his life during those moments.
The incident traumatised his family after they watched videos circulating on social media.
Kishore intends to file a personal FIR, separate from the ones already registered against violent protesters.
He alleged that unruly elements who entered the protest attacked several security personnel, including members of Rapid Action Force (RAF) and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).
Kishore sought stringent action against those responsible for the violence against security personnel.
Delhi Police have already detected over 2,500 people with criminal records near the Jantar Mantar protest site.
Police and security forces are also under scanner for their alleged disproportionate attacks against Gen-Z protesters on July 20. They have even been accused of firing pellet guns and injuring a number of protesters.
