Chennai: A thief left a apology note, promising to return the stolen items within a month, after robbing the house of a retired teacher’s home in Tamil Nadu.
According to media reports, the incident took place on June 25 in Megnanapuram’s Sathankulam road when Chithirai Selvan, 79, and his wife, were in Chennai to meet their son in Chennai. The domestic help, Selvi, whom the couple had hired to clean the house periodically in their absence, found the main door open on June 26 and informed Selvin.
When he reached home, the retired teacher found that he had been robbed of Rs 60,000, 12 gm gold jewellery and a pair of silver anklets.
Police searching the home found an apology letter purportedly left by the burglar. The letter read: “Forgive me. I will return this in a month. I am doing this as someone in my house is not well.”
Megnanapuram police have registered a case and have started an investigation.
In October 2023, a similar incident was reported in Kerala where a thief, who stole a gold necklace from a three-year-old kid, in an act of repentance returned the money earned from selling it, along with an apology letter.
