Ambikapur: Miscreants broke into the Congress district office in Ambikapur, Chhattisgarh, and decamped with 72 bathroom taps, leaving behind a ‘Love You’ note.
Party leaders were not amused and blamed the administration for the deteriorating law and order situation in the state.
The incident was reported from the city’s Gandhi Chowk area, considered a VIP zone. This was the third time that Rajiv Bhavan was targeted, leaders claimed.
Congress district president Balkrishna Pathak visited the office and accused drug addicts and anti-social elements of being behind the theft. The thieves removed the taps with such precision that it appeared they had no fear of being caugh
t, he said,
The ‘Love You’ message was a taunt to the police and administration, he said. The repeated break-ins reflected a worsening law and order situation in Ambikapur, Pathak stressed, demanding stronger action from the police.
The thieves took their time while removing the taps, revealing that they were unconcerned about getting caught, another party leader said. Such break-ins at the office of the main opposition party in the state are condemnable, he added.
The note left on the floor added insult to injury. “The accused even wrote a message on the ground before leaving, which is a direct mockery of the police and administration,” Pathak said.
He urged the police to increase patrolling and improve surveillance around public and political offices, warning that continued inaction would only embolden offenders. The district unit has demanded a thorough investigation and immediate arrests.
The police have registered a case on a complaint received by the Congress party leaders and are examining CCTV footage from the vicinity. No arrests have been made so far.
