Cuttack: The Cuttack district administration and the Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) began the third-phase eviction drive in the city on Wednesday.
The eviction drive began on both sides of Taladanda Canal behind the Hind Cinema in presence of the sub-collector of Cuttack Sadar, ADM and CMC deputy commissioner. To ward off any untoward incident, one platoon of police was deployed.
Talking to mediapersons, CMC Commissioner Ananya Das said 545 residential houses, 88 shops, 17 religious institutions and club houses built on the government land will be evicted.
Revenue Divisional Commissioner (RDC), Central, Anil Kumar Samal said that the state government has prepared a blueprint to develop SCB Medical College and Hospital into AIIMS Plus hospital, and announced a special package for the displaced people and business establishments on the hospital periphery.
Stating that five slums and 350 government quarters will be evicted in a phased manner, the RDC said that about 25,000 people will be displaced in the eviction drive. “The eviction drive will be completed by this month while the expansion work of the medical college will begin from March 1,” he added,
