New Delhi: Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty finally broke their China Masters jinx on Sunday.
The top Indian pair produced a sensational comeback against their Chinese opponents after surrendering the opening game to lift their maiden China Masters Super 750 title.
In a gruelling final that lasted 1 hour and 10 minutes, Satwik and Chirag overcame home favourites He Ji Ting and Ren Xiang Yu 11-21, 21-13, 21-17.
It was Satwik and Chirag’s 10th BWF World Tour title as they extended their head-to-head record against He and Ren to 3-0. The Indians had won the Singapore Open Super 750, and reached the Thailand Open Super 500 final earlier this season.
All their previous three matches had gone the distance, but in each of them, the Indians had bagged the first game. On Sunday, in front of a vocal home crowd, Satwik and Chirag were outplayed in the opener.
They rediscovered their touch to clinch the second game, but trailed for much of the decider. But once Satwik and Chirag moved ahead 18-17, they pressured He and Ren to sail through the last four point.
It was a sweet success for the Indians as they had fallen short in 2023 and 2025.
