Bhubaneswar: Allaying the apprehension about severity of the third wave of COVID-19, the Health Department has said its impact on Odisha would be much less compared to other states.

“The health experts have predicted the onset of the third wave in the country in August. But going by the downward trajectory in the COVID-19 positive cases in Odisha at present, we can say that the third wave will have less impact on our state,” Director, Medical Education and Training (DMET) CBK Mohanty told the media on Tuesday.

He assigned the reasons of the declining trend to awareness among the people who have taken adequate precautionary measures, strict adherence to COVID-19 guidelines, effect of the vaccination and the strategy adopted by the state government to prevent the spread of the virus.

Stating that the third wave will peak in the country in September and October, the DMET said the rising number of positive cases in Kerala and Maharashtra is an indication of the third wave.

He further said since the third wave will have more impact on the health of the children, the Odisha government has made special bed arrangements for the children in government hospitals and medical colleges.
