Mumbai: The 84-year-old father of a local political leader was arrested on Sunday for stabbing his 80-year-old wife to death and then trying to destroy evidence by burning the body.
Baliram Patil, who is the father of former corporator of Kalyan Dombivali Municipal Corporation, Ramakant Patil, killed his wife in a fit of rage by stabbing her multiple times using a knife and then tried to burn the body in his bedroom, India Today reported.
Ramakant and his wife woke up on Sunday morning saw smoke coming out of the old couple’s bedroom. Ramakant saw his mother Parvati lying lifeless with multiple stab wounds while her body parts were burning in some places. His father could not be found anywhere. The family then informed the local police station.
The family told police that Baliram was very short-tempered and would often get into arguments with his wife Parvati.
Baliram, who was arrested from a nearby locality confessed to the murder. He told police officials that he had killed his wife after an argument and then tried burning her body, India Today reported.
