This City Bans Roadside Stalls Selling Non-Vegetarian Food From Today

Ahmedabad: The sale of non-vegetarian food items at stalls alongside public roads has been banned by Gujarat’s Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) from Tuesday.

“Stalls selling non-vegetarian items will not be allowed along public roads and in the 100-metre radius of schools, colleges and religious places, Town Planning Committee of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation has decided. The execution will start tomorrow,” senior town planning official Devang Dani was quoted as saying by news agency ANI on Monday.

Dani further informed that people in the city were complaining about the non-vegetarian items’ sale alongside the public roads and the decision was made in a meeting.

Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, however, said that people are free to eat whatever they want to.

“It is not a question of vegetarian and non-vegetarian. People are free to eat whatever they want. But the food being sold at stalls should not be harmful and the stalls should not obstruct traffic flow,” the Chief Minister was quoted as saying by the agency in Anand district.
