Rourkela: Police on Sunday arrested three persons for allegedly attempting to rape a woman in Rourkela.
According to a complaint lodged by the woman labourer at Plant Site police station, she was returning from work when a group of 10-12 persons beat her up mercilessly by branding her as a child lifter when she resisted their rape attempt near Indira Colony in Rourkela on June 17.
“They ripped my dress and attempted to rape me while I was returning home. Seeing other people gathering, they started thrashing me by branding me as a child thief,” the victim stated in her complaint.
The matter came to light on Sunday after a video clip featuring the entire incident went viral.
The woman was admitted to a local hospital after the attack. She was later shifted to Ispat General Hospital here after her condition deteriorated. At present, she is recuperating at her house.
Basing on the complaint, Plant Site police arrested three persons.
“Efforts are on to arrest the remaining accused named in the complaint lodged by the victim,” said DSP, Rourkela, P K Mishra.
