Three Children Among Five Killed In Lightning Strikes In Odisha

Baripada: Three school students were among the five persons who were killed in lightning strikes in Mayurbhanj and Dhenkanal districts on Tuesday afternoon.

In Mayurbhanj district, two boys (Class X and IX) and a girl student (Class VI) of Baghuasola village under Chandua police limits were grazing goats near their houses in the afternoon when rain poured. To escape the rain, they took shelter under a tree when lightning struck them.

The three children lay unconscious on the field when the family members reached the spot and rushed them to district headquarters hospital, Baripada where the doctors declared them brought dead. Eighteen goats were also killed.

In another incident, a woman of Badamachana village under Suliapada police limits in the district died after lightning struck her.

In Dhenkanal district, a man was killed and three others were seriously injured at Mahuliapani village under Parjang police limits.
