Puri: The Chief Judicial Magistrate court here on Thursday sentenced three persons to five years of imprisonment in connection with the firing incident involving revenue minister Maheswar Mohanty. The minister had identified the trio during the trial.
While Satyanarayan Panigrahi, Lokanath Mishra and Amit Bikram Harichandan were found guilty and awarded the jail term, the court acquitted three other persons arrested in the case for lack of evidence.
On February 21, 2014, the then law minister Maheswar Mohanty was shot at near Amala block office, about 50 metres away from his house here. He was riding a scooter and sustained bullet injuries on his hand and shoulder.
His wife had lodged a complaint at Puri Town police station in this regard.
