Bhubaneswar: Police on Monday arrested three persons on charges of raping and killing a 50-year-old widow at Narayanpatna in Koraput district.
According to police sources, a complaint was registered in Narayanpatna police station on October 20 after a woman identified as Phulamani Sirika was found dead by her family.
The woman had left home on October 13 and her family members were of the impression that she had gone to visit a relative. However, they found her body seven days later and lodged an FIR.
Investigation disclosed that the woman was raped and later murdered. She had boarded a four-wheeler to her relative’s house and was raped and murdered by the driver, who later dumped the body.
The driver along with two other persons has been arrested and vehicle used in the crime seized. The accused has also confessed to the crime, police sources said.
