Jeypore: Three persons died while four others sustained critical injuries when two motorcycles collided head-on near Dumuriguda under Sadar police limits in Odisha’s Jeypore on Tuesday night.
The deceased have been identified as Padman Harijan (24) of Dhanapur, Gopal Harijan (22) of Jayantgiri and Dhananjay Harijan of Sanamandapadar.
According to sources, the mishap took place around 10.30 pm while some bikers were returning to Jeypore after attending a cultural event at Dhanpur. While four were riding one bike, there were three on the other travelling in opposite directions. All seven were thrown off the bikes after the collision on the reported dark stretch of the road.
The victims were rescued by police and rushed to district headquarters hospital where three among them were declared dead. Two among the injured were later shifted to Saheed Laxman Nayak Medical College and Hospital in critical condition, said Sadar police station in-charge Ishwar Thandi.
Police have launched an investigation to ascertain the circumstances leading to the accident.
