Amritsar: At least three people were killed and over 15 others injured in an explosion at Adliwal village near Amritsar’s Rajasansi on Sunday afternoon. The incident took place during a religious ceremony at Nirankari Bhawan.
IG (Border) Surinder Pal Singh Parmar has confirmed the death toll.
According to initial reports, two motorcycle-borne armed and masked miscreants forced their way inside the Bhawan at gun-point and hurled a hand grenade at the religious congregation. Later, they managed to escape from the spot.
The incident occurred around noon when hundreds of people had gathered for the event. The injured have been admitted to nearby hospitals.
Meanwhile, Punjab has been put on high alert with reports about presence of a group of six to seven JeM terrorists in the state, possibly in Ferozepur area. Search operation is underway to identify the trio, police sources said.
