Bhawanipatna: At least three persons were killed while nine others sustained critical injuries when the mini truck carrying them plunged into a canal near Jayapatna in Kalahandi district on Tuesday.
The deceased have been identified as Premaraj Nag and Usha Kumari Nag of Kapurmal village in the district. The injured persons were admitted to Jayapatana hospital for treatment.
Locals said that the victims, all businessmen, were on their way to Kalampur to sell their products in a market when the truck carrying them skidded off the road and plunged into the canal when the driver apparently lost control over the wheels.
Soon after the incident, police reached the spot and pulled out the ill-fated vehicle from the canal with the help of a crane.
