Sukma: Security forces gunned down three suspected Maoists, including a woman, in the forested hills of Sukma district in Chhattisgarh on Thursday morning.
This is the latest in a series of successful anti-Maoist operations in the state this year, taking the total number of fatalities to 284.
According to reports, the gunfight ensued this morning on a forested hill under Gollapalli police limits when a District Reserve Guard (DRG) team was conducting a search operation in the area following intelligence inputs regarding presence of Maoists in the area, Sukma SP Kiran Chavan told PTI.
The SP stated that the bodies of 3 Maoists, including a woman, have been recovered from the encounter site. Further search operation is underway for any additional threats or recoveries, the officer added.
Sukma police have identified the deceased as Madvi Joga alias Munna alias Jagat, Sodhi Bandi, and a woman Naxalite named Nuppo Bajni, all members of Kistaram Area Committee.
This has come a day after 11 Maoists, including five women and carrying a collective bounty of Rs 37 lakh, surrendered in neighbouring Narayanpur district of the state. The surrendered Maoists were provided cheques of Rs 50,000 each as incentive assistance under the state government’s rehabilitation policy.
