New Delhi: In a heartbreaking incident in New Delhi, three minor sisters died of starvation at Mandawali on Tuesday, which was later confirmed by the autopsy report.
The deceased were aged two, four and eight respectively.
The three girls were found unconscious in their one-room house by their neighbours at around 1 pm on Tuesday. No injury marks were found on their bodies.
The neighbours discovered that the girls were numb while their mother, who was also present in the house, did not know anything about it, Deputy Commissioner of Police, East, Pankaj Kumar Singh told India Today.
The three sisters were rushed to the Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital, where they were declared brought dead.
According to a report in IANS, the family had shifted to their relatives’ place at Mandawali a few days back. Their father is a daily wage labourer. He had been missing since Tuesday morning. The mother, suffering from mental illness, was unable to take care of the kids, the police said.
The autopsy report of three children revealed that the minors died due to prolonged starvation. The government has demanded a probe in the incident, which has shocked the national capital.
The news agency reported that the sub-divisional magistrate, Preet Vihar, has ordered two separate inquiries into the deaths.
Initially, the police were treating it as a case of natural deaths, but recovery of pills and medicine bottles prompted them to look into the poisoning angle as well.
Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi Manish Sisodia confirmed that a probe has been ordered and tweeted, “मंडावली में तीनबच्चियों की मौत की घटना की मजिस्ट्रेट जांच के आदेश दिए हैं। यह परिवार दो दिन पहले ही मंडावली में एक मकान में रह रहे किराएदार के यहांमेहमान आया था।
घटना के पहले से ही बच्चियों के मजदूर पिता काम पर गए थे जो लौटे नहीं हैं। मां भी पहले से मानसिक बीमार हैं।.”
