Bhubaneswar: The state police has decided to set up three more cyber police stations, keeping rising incidents of cyber crime in Odisha in mind.
“The spurt in cyber crime in Odisha is alarming. While 120 cyber cases were registered in the state in 2013, the number went up by almost seven times in 2018 (868). In proportion to the number of cyber cases, there aren’t adequate number of cyber police stations in the state to deal with these cases,” director-general of police (DGP) R.P. Sharma said while addressing a four-day specialised training programme on Crime Investigation and Forensics at Police Bhawan here on Monday.
To deal with the situation, it has been decided to set up three more cyber police stations in the state,” DGP Sharma said. The three new cyber police stations will be set up in Bhubaneswar, Balasore and Jeypore. The number of investigating officers, too, will be increased, the DGP said. At present, there are four cyber police stations, functioning in Cuttack, Rourkela, Berhampur and Sambalpur.
The DGP also released a compendium on Cyber Investigation and Forensics & Disest on Criminal Prosecution 2019 prepared by the CID and CB. The programme, being organised in collaboration with state branch of Unicef, was also attended by UNICEF Odisha chief Dr Monika Nielsen.
At the outset, Crime Branch ADGP Santosh Upadhyay gave an introduction and welcome address. IGP Crime Arun Bothra offered a vote of thanks. Crime Branch SP Sandip Madker co-coordinated the programme. Around 200 police officers from different districts participated in the programme.
