Sambalpur: In view of heavy inflow of water into the Hirakud Dam following incessant rain in the upper catchment areas of the Mahanadi, three more sluice gates of the reservoir were opened to release the excess water on Friday.
According to sources, the water level of the dam had touched 627.85 ft against its total capacity of 630 ft.
Currently, the floodwater is being discharged through eight gates. At 6 am, the average inflow of water was 2,16,238 cusec per second, the outflow was 1,02,885 cusec.
Similarly, the water level of Rengali reservoir stood at 122.74m against the optimal capacity of 123.50m, the sources added.
