Kendrapada: Police have arrested three persons including a couple for allegedly duping a medicine shop owner of Rs 40 lakh in Odisha’s Kendrapada district.
According to police sources, the arrested couple, Bibhu Kalyan Mishra and his wife Veena Mishra, belongs to Pattamundai in the district, while the third person, Rahul Joshi, is from Uttarakhand.
Santosh Parida, the owner of the medicine shop at Marsaghai in the district, came in contact with Bibhu, who introduced himself as a senior employee in a pharmaceutical firm at Haridwar in Uttarakhand, a few years ago.
As their relationship grew and they came closer, Veena tied Rakhi on Santosh to win his trust. A few days back, Bibhu introduced Rahul as a private secretary to the Health Minister in Uttarakhand to Santosh.
Later, Bibhu told Santosh that Rahul would help him set up a pharmaceutical firm in Odisha and allegedly took Rs 40 lakh from him for making necessary arrangements. But Bibhu neither set up the firm nor returned the money to Santosh.
Realising that he had been duped, Santosh filed a complaint against Bibhu at Patkura police station. Following investigation, the police arrested Bibhu, Veena and Rahul and produced them in a local court.
