Bhubaneswar: Three platoons of police were deployed in a slum of Bhubaneswar after five persons were injured in a violent clash between two groups of people late Sunday night.
According to sources, a group of residents in the slum under Bharatpur police station confronted another group which had felled a bayan tree and demolished a concrete circular dais around it. This led to heated exchange of words between the two groups.
Tension escalated as they were engaged in a clash with the people of both groups started attacking each other with sticks and other weapons. At least five people were injured in the group clash and were rushed to the hospital.
On getting information, a police team went to the slum and brought the situation under control. Three platoons of police have also been deployed there to prevent any further flare-up.
The local administration has also imposed restrictive orders under Section 163 to maintain law and order in the slum.
