Three Siblings Die After Consuming Bamboo Shoots In Odisha’s Malkangiri

Malkangiri: Three children of a family in Kacheli village of the district died on Thursday after consuming bamboo shoots.

Apart from the death of the three children, the condition of their sibling and the mother was critical. They are undergoing treatment at the district headquarters hospital.

The deceased have been identified as Sukanti Madhi (12), her sister Anjali (3) and brother Sitaram (7).

Sources in the village said the family had consumed bamboo shoots last night. Later, they had acute stomach pain. While three siblings died after severe diarrhoea, the condition of the mother and her minor daughter became critical.

Meanwhile, a team of doctors from the district headquarters hospital has rushed to the village to ascertain the cause of the death.

Talking to the media, Dr Anupam Jena said the family after consuming poisonous food complaint of acute stomach pain. The food prepared by the family has been sent to the laboratory to examine the poisonous content, he added.
