Bhubaneswar: Veteran communist leader and former Bhubaneswar MP Sivaji Patnaik passed away on Monday afternoon. He was 92.
He breathed his last at 2.10 pm while undergoing treatment in a private hospital here. He was admitted to the hospital at Unit -III on Sunday afternoon following a fall in his potassium level, CPI(M) state secretary Ali Kishor Patnaik informed.
Patnaik was elected to Lok Sabha thrice from the Bhubaneswar Parliamentary constituency in 1977, 1989 and 1991.
National vice-president of BJP Baijayant Panda has expressed deep sorrow over the passing away of Sivaji Patnaik. The senior leader said Patnaik’s death has created a void in the Left politics which can never be filled. He extended deep condolences to the bereaved family.
