Puri: Three youths were critically injured after being attacked by a group at Bada Danda Market Chhak in Odisha’s Puri town on Saturday morning.
The injured have been identified as Sameer Das, Hrusikesh Panda and Khageswar Sahu.
The incident took place while they were having tea at the market around 6 am. A group of 18 youths arrived at the spot on motorcycles and attacked the trio with swords. The three with grievous injures were rescued and rushed to Puri district headquarters hospital. Two of them were later shifted to the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack as their condition deteriorated, sources said.
Preliminary probe attributed the incident to past enmity and group clash over betting at ‘Khadipada Melana’ event. Police have detained two persons for questioning in this connection.
A few days ago, four servitors of Jagannath Temple here were injured after being attacked by a group of around 15 armed miscreants.
