Bhubaneswar: The regional meteorological centre of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday issued thunderstorm warning for 10 districts of Odisha.
The alert has been sounded for Balasore, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Nayagarh, Rayagada, Angul, Khurda, Balangir, Kalahandi and Kandhamal districts.
The latest Doppler weather radar and satellite images indicate that moderate thunderstorm accompanied by lightning and light to moderate rainfall is likely to occur over these districts by 6:45 pm, a Met bulletin said.
People at these places have been advised to stay indoors or shift to safe locations, if such weather conditions prevail.
According to the bulletin, a cyclonic circulation lies over North Odisha and its neighbourhood between 3.1 km and 3.6 km above mean sea level. A low pressure is likely to be formed over northwest Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood around August 13. Under its influence, heavy rainfall is expected to occur over north and coastal parts of the state from August 12 and 14.
