Bhubaneswar: The regional meteorological centre of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) here issued thunderstorm warning for 15 districts of Odisha on Saturday.
The alert has been sounded for Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Deogarh, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Rayagada, Ganjam, Gajapati, Kandhamal, Nayagarh, Cuttack, Puri and Khurda districts.
The latest Doppler weather radar and satellite images indicate that thunderstorm accompanied by lightning and spells of rain is likely to occur over these places by 8 pm, a Met bulletin said.
People in these districts have been advised to stay indoors or shift to safe locations, if such weather conditions prevail.
The weatherman has also stated that a low pressure area is expected to be formed over north Bay of Bengal on August 19. Under its influence, most parts of the state are likely to experience heavy rainfall in the next 48 hours.
