Bhubaneswar: Odisha can expect a slight relief from the sweltering heat as thunderstorm activity is likely to pull the mercury down by 2-3°C during the next 3 days.
However, the respite will not last long as the India Meteorological Department has predicted a gradual rise by 2-3°C during the subsequent 2 days at many places in the state, thereafter. “The day temperature is likely to remain 40°C or above at many places in interior Odisha and 3-5°C above normal in some districts of the state during next 24 hours due to prevailing northwesterly/westerly dry air and high solar insolation,” according to the midday bulletin.
While the state will continue to experience discomfort due to heatwave and hot and humid conditions, yellow warning of thunderstorm with lightning accompanied by gusty surface wind speed reaching 40- 50 kmph has also been issued for one or two places in Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, and Mayurbhanj on Monday (April 22).
Hailstorm is likely at one or two places in Kandhamal, Boudh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, and Mayurbhanj.
Heatwave condition may also prevail at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Cuttack, Khurda, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balangir, Boudh, Jajpur, Dhenkanal, and Nuapada during the day. Hot and humid weather condition is also likely at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati.
On Tuesday (April 23), thunderstorm with lightning may continue at one or two places in Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Bargarh, Jharsuguda, and Sundargarh. There is also a yellow warning of hot and humid weather condition for one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, and Dhenkanal.
On Wednesday (April 24), yellow warning of thunderstorm with lightning has been issued for one or two places in Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Koraput, and Malkangiri. Hot and humid weather condition may also prevail at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, and Dhenkanal.
Light rain is also likely at isolated places till April 24.
Heatwave may return to Odisha again from Thursday (April 25) with yellow warning issued for one or two places in Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Dhenkanal, and Sundargarh districts. Hot and humid weather condition may also prevail at one or two places in Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, Jajpur, Bhadrak, and Balasore.
The weather agency has issued orange warning of heatwave for one or two places in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Angul, Dhenkanal, Balasore, Bhadrak, Balangir, Nuapada, Sonepur, and Boudh on Friday (April 26). Hot and humid weather condition is also likely at one or two places in Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, Jajpur, Bhadrak, and Balasore.
While there are no further weather warning, dry weather will prevail across the state thereafter, it added.
