Thunderstorm, Gusty Wind To Bring Down Temp In Odisha After 3 Heatwave Days

Bhubaneswar: After warning night and heatwave for three days, Odisha is likely to experience thunderstorm with lightning accompanied by gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph on April 7-8, the India Meteorological Department informed on Thursday.

According to the midday bulletin, the state may witness a gradual rise in maximum temperature by 2-3°C during the next 3 days and fall by 2-4°C at many places during the subsequent 2 days. The day temperature may touch 40°C in twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack and soar to 43°C at Malkangiri, Boudh, Balangir, Titlagarh, Angul and Jharsuguda.

Heatwave warning has been issued for Balangir, Keonjhar, Boudh, Malkangiri, Nayagarh, and Angul districts while warmer nights may prevail in Balangir, Kandhamal, Boudh, and Bhadrak on April 4, 5, 6. “Due to prevailing mainly northwesterly/westerly dry air and high solar insolation, the day temperature is likely to be more than 40°C at many places in Odisha and above normal by 3 to 5°C in some districts till April 6. People are advised to take precautionary measure while going outside during day time between 11 am and 3 pm,”

Thunderstorm with lightning very likely may occur at one or two places in Bargarh, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Angul, Dhenkanal, Balasore, and Deogarh on April 6. Thunderstorm with lightning accompanied with gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph is likely at one or two places in Bargarh, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Angul, Dhenkanal, Balasore, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Sambalpur, and Deogarh districts on April 7. Similar weather conditions may prevail at one or two places in North Coastal Odisha, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Khurda, Angul, Nayagarh, Puri, Ganjam, and Kandhamal during the subsequent 24 hours.

There is also a forecast for light to moderate rain across the state during the next five days. Dry weather will prevail from April 10.
