Bhubaneswar: Thunderstorm coupled with lightning and high-velocity winds is likely to occur in several parts of Odisha during the next six days, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Thursday.
In view of the weather forecast, the IMD has issued yellow warnings (Be Aware) for multiple districts in in the state till the morning of July 15.
Heavy rain is also expected to lash some places, prompting authorities to advise residents and local authorities to remain vigilant and keep a watch on weather conditions.
In its midday weather bulletin, the Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar said thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty surface winds (speed reaching up to 40-50 kmph) may occur at some places over Baleshwar and Bhadrak districts on Friday.
Strong surface winds (up to 40-50 kmph) are expected at isolated places over Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghapur, Kataka, Gajapati, Ganjam, Pur
i, Khordha, and Nayagarh. districts
Similarly, thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds (30-40 kmph) are likely over Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Anugola, Dhenkanal, Kendujhar, and Mayurbhanj districts.
On July 11, thunderstorms, lightning and gusty surface winds (30-40 kmph) may occur at one or two places over Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Debagad, Anugola, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, and Boudhagad districts.
On July 12, similar conditions with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds (30-40 kmph) are expected at isolated places over Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Sundargarh, Kendujhar, and Mayurbhanj districts.
Similar weather conditions have been forecast over Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargad, Sambalpur, Debagad, Anugola, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, Sonpur, Boudhagad, and Balangir districts.
On July 14, thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds (30-40 kmph) may occur in Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargad, Sambalpur, Debagad, Anugola, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, Sonpur, Boudhagad, and Balangir districts.
This apart, heavy rainfall is very likely at one or two places over Kendujhar and Mayurbhanj districts during the period.
On July 15, heavy rainfall is likely to occur at one or two places over Kendujhar and Mayurbhanj districts.
The weather agency has advised people in the affected areas to take necessary precautions, especially those engaged in outdoor activities, as lightning and strong winds can pose risks to life and property. Farmers and fishermen are also urged to keep a watch on the weather conditions.
