Bhubaneswar: The regional centre of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorm and lightning in 15 districts of Odisha till 8 pm on Thursday.
The weather condition will prevail in Koraput, Malkangiri, Rayagada, Kalahandi, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Sundargarh, Deogarh, Angul, Sambalpur, Sonepur, Boudh, Balangir and Kandhamal for the next 3 hours.
People have been advised to keep a watch on the weather and accordingly move to safer places to protect themselves from lightning strikes.
The IMD has also issued yellow warning for several districts of Odisha till 8.30 am on Saturday.
While the entire state is likely to experience light to moderate rain, thunderstorm with lightning is expected one or two places in Nuapada, Balangir, Sonepur, Boudh, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Deogarh, Sundargarh, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj till 8.30 am on Friday.
Thunderstorm with lightning will continue at one or two places in Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul till 8.30 am on Saturday.
Light to moderate rain or thundershower is also likely to occur at many places in interior Odisha and at a few places in coastal Odisha during this period.
Meanwhile, the well-marked low-pressure area is now lying over north Jharkhand and adjoining Bihar, the Met office added.
