Bhubaneswar: After a long spell of tormenting heatwave, several parts of Odisha are likely to experience rain and thunderstorms in the next few days, India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Saturday.
In its midday weather bulletin, the Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar said that light to moderate rain/thundershower is likely to occur at one or two places over Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Dhenkanal, Kalahandi, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, Kandhamal, Koraput, and Rayagada districts in the next 24 hours.
Thunderstorm with lightning accompanied by gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 KMPH may to occur at some places of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Angul, Dhenkanal, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Koraput, and Kalahandi.
At the same time, heatwave condition is likely to prevail in Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Angul, Boudh, Balangir, and Nuapada districts, it said.
The weather agency said that the thunderstorm activities will bring down the maximum temperature by 3 to 5 degree Celsius. Due to these thunderstorm activities, there will be a considerable drop in the maximum temperature in Odisha offering the much-needed relief from the intense heatwave.
