Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a nowcast warning on Tuesday afternoon about thunderstorm, rain and lightning in 14 districts of Odisha, including the capital city of Bhubaneswar, in the next three hours.
The weather agency issued an orange alert for Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Nuapada, Koraput, Nayagarh, Kandhamal and Khurda (including Bhubaneswar). Moderate thunderstorm accompanied with wind speed reaching 40 – 50 kmph, lightning and moderate rain likely to affect some parts of these districts within three hours, it said in the message issues at 3.50 pm.
Under its impact, minor damage to loose / unsecured structures, minor damage to banana trees and some damage to standing crops may occur.
People are advised to keep a watch on the weather for worsening conditions and be ready to move to safer places accordingly.
The weather agency also sounded yellow warning about moderate thundershower with lightning and light to moderate rain in some parts of Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore and Cuttack districts within next three hours.
People are advised to keep a watch on the weather and accordingly move to safer places to protect from lightning strike.
