Thunderstorm Relief Expected Amid Heatwave Alert In Odisha From April 16; Temp To Rise 2-4°C

Bhubaneswar: Heatwave is likely to scorch Odisha from April 16 amid the prevailing sultry weather conditions in coastal areas, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed on Tuesday.

The state may also witness a gradual rise in the day temperature by 2-4°C during the next 3 days.

According to the midday bulletin, the north-south trough running from south Assam to south Tamil Nadu across cyclonic circulation over Jharkhand & adjoining Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Telangana and interior Karnatak may also trigger thunderstorm activity in the state.

The weather agency has forecast hot and humid conditions at isolated places in districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Ken

drapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam and Gajapati till April 20. Yellow warning for heatwave has been issued for Balangir, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur and Sonepur on April 16; Balangir, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Angul, Sonepur, Boudh and Kandhamal on April 17; Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Balangir, Angul, Sonepur, Boudh and Kandhamal on April 18.

On April 19, heatwave condition may prevail at isolated places in the districts of Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Bargarh, Sonepur, Boudh, Balangir, Nuapada, Nabarangpur, Angul, Kalahandi and Kandhamal. The warning continues for Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Sonepur, Boudh and Angul on April 20.

Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty surface wind (30-40 kmph) may begin in the afternoon/evening hours from April 17. Warning has been issued for at one or two places in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar and Balasore on April 17; Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Koraput and Malkangiri on April 18-19, and Rayagada, Koraput and Malkangiri on April 20.

The IMD has predicted no large change in the weather conditions thereafter.
