Bhubaneswar: Following the thunderstorm warning by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the Odisha government on Saturday directed district collectors to take necessary measures.
The Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) issued the directive in a letter to the collectors.
The SRC asked the collectors to circulate the warning message among the people, closely monitor the situation, take necessary action in case of any eventuality and immediately report to the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC) if any major incident occurs in their district.
Earlier in a mid-day bulletin, the IMD there will be thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph at one or two places in most of the districts under the influence of a cyclonic circulation over Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining Jharkhand and Bihar. The weather condition will continue for three days till May 10.
In view of the changing weather condition, IMD has issued a yellow warning for the following districts.
May 8
Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Malkangiri and Koraput.
Hailstorm at one or two places over the districts of Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Jajpur, Bhadrak and Balasore.
May 9
Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Sundargarh, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sonepur, Sambalpur, Rayagada, Gajapati, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Boudh and Nayagarh.
May 10
Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Kandhamal, Cuttack and Dhenkanal.
