Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast thunderstorm along with lightning in Odisha’s twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack on Thursday night.
In a Nowcast Warning issued at 6.30 pm on Thursday, the regional centre of IMD in Bhubaneswar said light to moderate rain/thunderstorm with lightning is likely to affect some parts of Nayagarh, Khurda including Bhubaneswar, Cuttack including Cuttack city, Dhenkanal and Jajpur within 3 hours.
It has advised the people to keep a watch on the weather and accordingly move to safer places to protect from lightning strike.
In its evening bulletin, the IMD issued a yellow warning and said thunderstorm with lightening and gusty surface
wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph are very likely to occur at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Angul, Dhenkanal, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Malkangiri and Koraput districts by 8.30 am on Friday.
It has also forecast light to moderate rain or thunderstorm at many places in the districts of North Coastal Odisha and at a few places in South Coastal Odisha, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sundargarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Malkangiri, Koraput and at one or two places over the rest districts of Odisha.
