Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a nowcast warning for 11 districts of Odisha, including state capital Bhubaneswar, till around 5 pm on Thursday.
Moderate thunderstorms, rain, lightning with surface wind speed 50-60 kmph may occur at isolated places in Mayurbhanj, Debagada, Sundarga
da, Gajapati and Ganjam districts till 3.46 pm. Thunderstorms with lightning may also occur at isolated places in Khordha (including Bhubaneswar), Kendrapada, Dhenkanal and Mayurbhanj till 4.56 pm.
Similarly, yellow warning of light thunderstorms, lightning, light to moderate rain with surface wind speed reaching 40 kmph has been issued for Kendrapada, Kalahandi, Kendujhar, Khordha and Kataka till 4.45 pm.
People have been advised to keep a watch on the weather and move to safer places to protect themselves from lightning strikes.
The IMD in its morning bulletin has predicted fairly widespread to widespread rainfall in Odisha from June 28- July 1. Isolated to scattered rainfall may also occur in the state from June 25-27. There is also a warning for isolated thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds (speed reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph) for Odisha from June 25-28. Isolated heavy rainfall may also occur in the state from June 28-July 1.
