Bhubaneswar: Nandan, the Royal Bengal Tiger at Odisha’s Nandankanan Zoological Park (NZP), is unable to walk properly. According to zoo sources, it is suffering from arthritis in the waist.
As per a zoo official, Nandan is in the veterinary hospital on the zoo premises and is being provided treatment by OUAT’s Head of the Department of Surgery & Radiology Prof Indramani Nath.
An x-ray has been conducted and blood samples of the sick tiger have been collected after tranquillization to ascertain further cause of his illness.
The male tiger had sneaked into the zoo in 2013 from the wild. Zoo officials believed it had perhaps strayed from forest area nearby in search of a mate.
Nandan had mated with tigress Megha and fathered two cubs in 2016 and three more in 2021 at the zoo
