Patna: A man-eating tiger was on Saturday shot dead by forest officials.
The three-year-old tiger claimed 10 lives in and around Valmiki Tiger Reserve (VTR) in Bihar’s West Champaran since September, reported Live Hindustan.
A woman and her child were the man-eater’s last victims, in Balua village under Govardhan police station.
The Bihar government on Friday directed the forest, environment and climate change departments to shoot the tiger as it caused harm to human lives.
“An order has been issued to kill the man-eating tiger that has caused several human deaths. This order has been issued by the department’s additional principal chief conservator of forests-cum-chief wildlife warden, Bihar, Prabhat Kumar Gupta, in which it has been considered necessary to kill the man-eating tiger in view of the circumstances,” the state government stated.
The tiger killed four persons in the past three days, spreading panic in the area.
The forest department had earlier sent a big team of trackers, shooters, rescuers, forest jawans and veterinary specialists to track the tiger, but the man-eater remained elusive.
