Mumbai: Following the Centre’s decision to block 59 Chinese apps, Head of TikTok India, Nikhil Gandhi, clarified that the popular short video-sharing platform complied with all data privacy and security requirement under Indian law and had not shared any information of its users with any foreign governments, including China.

The statement assumes a lot of significance as the company has expressed hopes to continue its operations in India despite the Centre having disallowed it along with 58 other “malicious apps”. The company stating that it has to be “requested in future” not to share users’ information has raised eyebrows in different circles as some feel the truth lies if we read it between the lines.

“Further if we are requested to do in future, we would not do so. We place the highest importance on user privacy and integrity,” Gandhi said in an update.

He further informed that they have been invited to meet the concerned government stakeholders for an opportunity to respond and submit clarification.

TikTok, meanwhile, has been removed from Google play store.
