New Delhi: Affordable 4G internet and smartphones have led to an increase in the number of social media and messaging users in rural India.
A new report by research firm Kantar has revealed data usage patterns across India. It shows that WhatsApp has a usage index of 37, Facebook scored 47 and TikTok led the chart with 166.
Also, women make about 41 per cent of the total internet users in rural India as compared to 43 per cent of total users in urban India. Around 89 per cent of rural users access the internet daily. The number is 88 per cent in urban India.
In India, only 19 per cent of internet users use personal computers. The majority of users lie in the age range of 15 to 34. It was found that rural internet users do fewer things online but stay engaged for longer times.
Most video is consumed via MX Player and Reliance Jio TV in India, the report said.
