New Delhi: A Muslim woman was sentenced to two years in prison and fined $16,245 after sharing a video on TikTok where she is seen reciting an Islamic prayer before eating a pork preparation in Bali, Indonesia.
The 33-year-old woman, identified as Lina Mukherjee on social media, was tried in Palembang district court in Sumatra island, CNN reported.
According to the court document, the woman was found guilty under Indonesia’s blasphemy law of “spreading information aimed at inciting hatred against religious individuals and specific groups”.
Mukherjee was travelling in Bali when the video was filmed. It features the woman trying babi guling, a popular street food of rice and chunks of spit-roasted pork and crackling served with vegetables.

The video, which attracted millions of views, was condemned by religious groups.
Indonesian Ulema Council, the top Muslim clerical body, issued a ruling calling it “blasphemous.”
“I know I was wrong but I really did not expect this punishment,” said Mukherjee, who is likely to appeal the sentence, CNN Indonesia said.
Mukherjee has a combined social media following of over 2 million.
Indonesia is the world’s largest Muslim nation, where 93% of its adult population identify as Muslim.
Islam forbids consumption of pork.
