Bhubaneswar: The under-construction second bridge over river Brahmani in Rourkela is targeted to be completed by June-end, said chief secretary Suresh Chandra Mahapatra.
Speaking to media persons on second day of his tour to the steel city, the bridge is in final stage of completion and its one side will be opened for use by the end of this month. The six-lane bridge will go a long way in reducing vehicular traffic in Rourkela as heavy vehicles would use the bypass without entering the city. It would also bring down the vehicular pollution, he added.
Earlier, the chief secretary visited the bridge to take stock of the progress of the bridge and also reviewed various ongoing developmental works. He took particular interest in Birsa Munda International Hockey Stadium coming up in the campus of Biju Patnaik University of Technology (BPUT).
Reviewing the beautification works under Rourkela smart city project in view men’s hockey world cup in 2023 which would be jointly hosted by Rourkela, he directed the officials to maintain the quality of structures and complete the works within the deadline. He visited under-construction recreational park at Koel Nagar, parking space at Traffic Gate and the market complex at Panposh.
As part of his tour, Mahapatra visited Tensa hill nature camp in Koida block of Sundargarh district and took stock of the facilities for tourists in a meeting with members of local forest protection committee. He also visited water treatment plant at Lalei in Lahunipada block to review its smooth operation.
Senior officers of district administration including collector Nikhil Pawan Kalyan, additional collector Dr Subhankar Mohapatra and others accompanied the chief secretary during his visit.
