Bhubaneswar: The western Odisha town of Titlagarh recorded the highest temperature of this season at 45 degree Celsius as most parts of the state came under the grip of an intense heat wave on Saturday.
Apart from Titlagarh, mercury shot up to 40 and above in 13 places – Chandbali (40.7), Angul (42.7), Jharsuguda (43), Keonjhar (40.3), Sambalpur (42.7), Sundargarh (42), Hirakud (42), Talcher (43.3), Bhawanipatna (42.6), Balangir (43.5), Phulbani (41.6), Titilagarh (45) and Malkangiri (42.5), said the Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar, in an evening release.
Besides, the temperature remained close to 40 degrees in Balasore (38.8), Cuttack (39.8), Bhubaneswar (39.4), Koraput (39.6) and Daringbadi (38.5).
People in the twin cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar had a torrid time as the sultry heat with the humidity level at 78 and 75 per cent respectively made life miserable.
With the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicting no impact of the Cyclone Fani in Odisha, the heat wave is most likely to intensify further in the next five days, the release added.
