Kolkata: Popular Odia, Bangla and Hindi actress Rachana Banerjee, who was on Sunday named a Trinamool Congress (TMC) candidate, said she was looking forward to the fun and challenge of contesting the Lok Sabha elections from West Bengal’s Hooghly constituency.
The actress and TV show host told mediapersons that she will begin her election campaign soon and will temporarily shift to the district to be with people of her constituency. “My campaign will start within three to four days. I will stay in Hooghly, take a house, and fight the elections,” said Rachana.
Rachana will be up against fellow former actress Locket Chatterjee, incumbent BJP MP from Hooghly.
Asked whether it will be tough to contest from Hooghly, a jute mill belt, Rachana said: “It is a challenge. But life is full of challenges. We have to take it. Having challenges in life is fun.”
On contesting against sitting MP Locket, Rachana said, “She is my political opponent, not my rival. She will do her work, I will do mine. People will decide our fate.”
