Bhubaneswar: The toll in AC compressor explosion at Hi-Tech Medical College & Hospital in Odisha capital mounted to two as another person succumbed to injuries on Tuesday night.
The deceased has been identified as Sritam Sahu (23) of Chainpur village in Delang area of Puri district.
The incident took place on December 29 evening when the AC compressor on the top floor of private medical college-cum-hospital exploded as the workers were filling gas. This led to a fire, causing burn injuries to them. Fortunately, there was no patient and outsiders on the floor. “The injured are in the ICU,” hospital CEO Jotirmay Panda told reporters after the accident.
The first victim of the blast, Dilip Samantaray of Harirajpur in Khurda’s Jatni, had succumbed during treatment on December 31. He had sustained more than 80 per cent burn injury. A day after the death the technician, his wife, Suna Samantray, had reportedly hanged self at her father’s house in Gandhi Nagar area under Jatni police limits. She had gone into depression as her husband was battling for life in the hospital.
Two other injured are still under treatment and their condition is stated to be critical.
