Toll Plaza Fined By Consumer Court For Unauthorised Deduction From Fastag Wallet In Odisha

Sambalpur: A consumer court in Odisha has imposed a fine on a toll plaza on National Highway-53 at Barhagoda in Bargarh district for alleged deduction of fee from fastag accounts of two vehicles in an unauthorised manner.

Hearing the complaints, the court in Sambalpur directed the plaza to pay Rs 25,000 each to the owners of the two vehicles as fine. As per reports, the court also ordered the toll plaza to pay them Rs 5000 each towards their legal expenses.

This apart, the court also asked the toll plaza to reimburse the amount deducted from the fastag with 12 per cent interest.

According to information, the two vehicles had never passed through the toll plaza at Barhagoda. Instead, they had taken a left turn 200 metres before the plaza and moved on the State Highway connecting Barhagoda with Tora.

However, toll amount was deducted from their fastag wallets. Both the vehicle owners had approached the consumer court at Sambalpur and filed two separate complaints.

It may be noted here that the deduction of money from fastag wallet on the State Highway running adjacent to the NH has been reported on that stretch.
